Students who don't turn in their homework on time are required to serve detention after school. The principal warns the teacher three times that this practice is unacceptable, but the teacher protests each time that the students' motivation has increased significantly as a result of this practice. The teacher is dismissed, but then sues, arguing that his academic freedom has been violated.
