Rotation is the spinning of the earth on its axis which it does during orbit. Rotation is an action that occurs by the object moving upon an axis that is inside of the object as it moves. Revolution is the way the earth moves around the sun in an elliptical orbit. Revolution occurs when the object in question is rotated and moved around an axis that resides outside of the object and the object moves along a path equidistance from the point at all times.
