Roy is the main character. He moved to Florida from Montana.He is a dynamic character. At first he hates living in Florida but then some crazy events happen and he ends up loving Florida. He is a protagonist because there are so many things that get in his way like a bully,his parents, a cop, and etc. An example of direct characterization is when the author say's that Roy is smart and loves to read books. An example of indirect characterization is Roy loves the out doors. He rides his bike outside so many times in the novel.  

Mullet fingers is the running boy with no shoes that Roy tries to follow. He is a static character. He wanted to save the owls from the very beginning. He is also a protagonist because he tries to stop the owls from getting hurt even when he gets bit by a dog and almost hit be a bulldozer. An example of direct characterization is he really cares about nature. An indirect characterization is he is very stubborn. No matter how many people told him to give up he kept trying.
