The principles of inheritance, succession and residence have the propensity to impact kin relationships in traditional societies. Discuss.
Sociology.

Respuesta :

Traditional societies practiced succession and inheritance which were means of passing titles and assets to the next generation.

These things impact kin relationships in several ways such as:

  • Brought animosity amongst kin - family members would often fight to gain more inheritance. For instance, brothers would fight over titles and land. They could even go as far as killing themselves to gain more assets or titles.

  • Led to the creation of alliances - In knowing that a certain person might be the one to inherit a title or property, other kin would ally with that person well in time so as to benefit when they inherit the title or assets.

In conclusion, succession and inheritance had the propensity to either make kin closer or further apart to the point of death.
