The correct answer to this open question is the following.
The changes that took place in the life of the average American woman between the end of World War I and the end of World War II were considerable and defined the role of women in the decades to come.
Men were drafted to enroll in the military to go to the war, that is why women had to start working as workers in the industries of America because many things were produced to help the war effort.
We are talking about weaponry, military vehicles, tanks, and supplies that were sent to the war front in Europe. For most women, it was the first time they leave the family environment and started to work in the industries and companies of America.
The role of women had been limited to a "mother" raising children and some other basic activities. But the war changed this. Women had to procure for the family while men were abroad, at the war front.
Answer:
African Americans faced horrible prejudice, like any time before the civil rights movement. The Harlem renaissance was an outburst of black creativity, and in WWII the black population helped fight overseas. Their service helped move civil rights.
The great depression of the 1930s worsened the already bare economic situation of African americans. They were the first to be laid off from their jobs, and they suffered from an unemployment rate 2-3 times that of whites. An organization that changed the way African Americans saw opportunities for themselves is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, NAACP, which aimed to ensure colored people had access to educational, economic and political opportunities. Individuals include Martin Luther King who led the civil rights fight.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt allowed African Americans to join the army to fight for their freedom. Tuskegee Airmen allowed african americans to fight in WWII and also become pilots but he wasn't able to make too much progress against segregation. That came later in the late 50s. During Roosevelt's presidency, many african americans migrated from the south to the urban north. In the north, they were able to vote and they had more job opportunities. The south was a worse place for black Americans to live. Roosevelt spoke against executing and met with African American civil rights leaders. He also claimed that helping black Americans would cost him too many southern votes. During world war II, blacks found more jobs than ever before, and racial tensions grew. This tension led to violence, like the race riot in 1943 Detroit.
