First distribute 8 to what’s in the parentheses
3x-1=8x+8+1
Then combine like terms on both sides (in this case only the right side)
3x-1=8x+9
Then move the -1 to the right side (you add one and cancel it out on the left side and then add one to 9 on the right side)
3x=8x+10
Move the 8x to the left side by subtracting 8x and subtracting 8x to 3x
-5x=10
Divide -5 on both sides and it will cancel out the -5x and leave you with x and complete the problem (since 10 divided by -5 is -2 that’s your answer)
