Part 1 and 2 are 20 km. He is incorrect. How many meters will be required
for Part 3

1 kilometer is equivalent to 1,000 meters. Therefore, we can find out why Tommy was incorrect and how many meters will be required for part 3 by converting the meters in this question to kilometers.

4,000m = 4km

6,000m = 6km

4km plus 6km is equal to 10km, which is nowhere near 20km. To find out how many kilometers we need for part 3, we need to subtract the number of kilometers we already have (10km) from the total number we need for the whole race (20km).

20km – 10km = 10km

Since the question is asking us to give the answer in meters, we need to multiply 10km by 1,000.
