  • Chloroplast is a membrane-bound organelle found in certain eukaryotic cells that have the ability to synthesize their own food e.g. plant cells.

  • Chloroplast organelle contains a pigment called CHLOROPHYLL which captures light energy from the sun. The energy is used to synthesize glucose in plant cells.

  • Animal cells, on the other hand, are heterotrophic i.e. cannot produce their own food and hence depend on other organisms. Animal cells cannot produce their own food because they do not contain the chloroplast organelle.
