Between 1915 and 1945, the United States went through World War I, the booming 1920,
the Great Depression of the 1930, and World War II. Although this time period was traumatic for many Americans, it also transformed the US identity. Think of the 1920 in contrast with the Great Depression of the 1930. Which of these two time periods do you think has had a bigger impact on the development of US society, either from a political or cultural viewpoint? Explain why.

I believe the Great Depression had a bigger impact on Americans culturally because, for many this was a devastating time. Many families lost everything they had this includes, jobs, money, cars, homes, family heirlooms and much more. No one was comfortable in this time, many family’s would divide their houses to boarders (like renters), in order to pay the loans to keep the bank from foreclosing them. Food became expensive and hard to find, soup kitchens became busy with those who couldn’t afford groceries. No jobs could be found many turning to leaving their families riding the railroad in search for work. If you were a farmer during this time life was even more difficult as the crops began failing from the soil being over used, it became dry and barren(the dust bowl). (Which caused more of a food shortage!)

Well, I think the Great Depression had a major impact on the development of American society mainly from a political point of view. There was financial panic and it was very difficult for American citizens because most of the people lost everything they had. Jobs, money, cars, and homes were some of the many things they lost during the 10-year Great Depression. This changed everything politically speaking because the people began to get demoralized and did not trust the government.
