find the 'ones'
remember that x/x=1 when x=x
also [tex] \frac{a+b}{c} =( \frac{a}{c})+(\frac{b}{c})[/tex]
try to see how many of the deomenator goes in the numerator

9*1=9
9*2=18
9*3=27
9*4=36
9*5=45
45 is too high
36 is just below

use 36
37-36=1

so
[tex] \frac{38}{9} [/tex]=
[tex]( \frac{36}{9} )+( \frac{1}{9} )[/tex]=
[tex]4+ \frac{1}{9} [/tex]=
4 and 1/9

answer is 4 and 1/9
