Jorge has become concerned about his eating practices since he started college last month. He lives in a residence hall that haws an all-you-can-eat dining facility I the basement and the student Union is nearby. Several fast-food chain restaurants are in the Student Union, including burger, sandwich and smoothies’ shops. After moving in, Jorge began a daily routine of eating a fast-food breakfast sandwich at the Student Union before his 10 A.M, class, drinking surgery soft drinks between classes, then eating three slices of pizza or a couple of hamburgers and a large portion of fries in the cafeteria at night. He knows he should eat more nutrition foods, but he thinks he does not have enough time to eat fresh salads or fresh fruit. Jorge wants your advice concerning how he can improve his food choices.  Consider Jorge’s current eating practices. Do his food choices reflect a nutritionally adequate pattern?  What steps can Jorge take to improve his eating practices?

Answer:

When looking at nutrition more importantly calories you need to look at the end goal. If jorge is looking to become more healthy overall eating habits need to change. A cleaner diet with more fruits need to be squeezed in no matter what maybe looking at healthier alternatives like whole wheat or controlling his portions. If Jorge is looking to lose weight or maintain weight he needs to go in a calorie deficit. This is where you eat less calories than you burn causing you to lose weight. It does not matter whether you eat pizza or apples a calorie deficit  only looks at the calories eaten. This can be found out using online calculators that help you calculate total calories for the day
