The correct answer is rancorous revenge
Spiteful people permanently hold a piece of burning coal. They do this with the intention of throwing that coal on those who have offended them at the most unthinkable moment.
However, those who end up getting burned are not the others, but themselves. For they hold such an ember for a long time, burning themselves with this source of anger, hatred and malaise.
Although some resentful person we know comes to mind right now, there is one aspect that we cannot overlook. This dimension, this deep feeling (and, without a doubt, self-destructive) is not experienced exclusively by those who do not know how to practice the healthy exercise of forgiveness.
