As cartography is the science of the map-making similarly the art of mental maps is also used to depict the directions to place that is known or in describing how the areas or surrounding looks like.
The standpoint of geography can be seen as the behaviorism approach to study the various aspects of the physical world. In trying to generalize the area and draw a conclusion based on the mental mindset is also called as mental mapping.
