A star is a giant astronomical or celestial object that comprises a luminous sphere of plasma and bounded together by its own gravitational force.

A galaxy can be defined as a collection or group of many billions of stars, which are existing independently. Thus, the greatest number of stars are found in a galaxy.

Generally, a star is typically made up of two (2) main hot gas and these are Hydrogen (H) and Helium (He).  Some examples of a star are;

  • Canopus.
  • Sun (closest to the Earth).
  • Betelgeus.
  • Antares.
  • Vega.

Additionally, these giant astronomical or celestial objects in space are capable of producing their own heat and light.

Since a galaxy comprises many billions of stars, the characteristics which can be used to differentiate star systems include the following;

1. The number of stars in the system: you should determine the total amount of stars that makes up the system.

2. The age of the stars in the system: the date when the stars were formed should be determined.

3. The way stars are organized in the system: you observe the manner in which the stars are arranged and organized in star system.
