On May 7, 1945, Germany signed an unconditional surrender at Allied headquarters in Reims, France, to take effect the following day, ending the European conflict of World War II.

Germany was losing a war on two fronts. The Western front had troops from Britain, US, and Allies, while the Eastern front has the Soviet Union who were angry at the betrayal of Germany during the war.
