This was a great ides for farmers! here's why..
Even though rice is a type of grass It can grow in wet floody conditions and dry dirt conditions. But When they grow in dry ground So do all the of the weeds. And the weeds takes away quality from the rice.
On top of that there is not a single herbicide out there that can kill the weeds and not kill the rice:/
On top of that flooding kills a lot of the bugs that are trying to get a meal. If they cant swim then there might be a problem for the bugs:D

Rice has a submerged growth state while most weeds do not. Therefore, flooding rice fields reduces the growth of these less robust pests without negatively affecting the rice crop. Flooding the fields also deters many kinds of vermin that would otherwise live in the soil and harm the rice plants because they cannot breathe underwater.
