remove 64 on both sides

64-64+b^2=100-64

b^2=36

find the square root for 36

[tex] \sqrt{{b}^{2} } = \sqrt{36} [/tex]

b=6

remember that for later

use Pythagorean theorem again to find the missing side for B

[tex] {a}^{2} + {8}^{2} = {17}^{2} [/tex]

[tex] {a}^{2} + 64 = 289[/tex]

remove 64 both sides

a^2+64-64=289-64

a^2=225

find square root for 225

[tex] \sqrt {a}^{2} = \sqrt{225} [/tex]

a=15

add the sides together

6 (b) + 15 (a) = 21
