Usually victims (those who suffered under the criminal's offense) generally want to see justice imposed on the criminal. A more efficient process of carrying out the sentence would:
1) Take pressure off the victim: Generally, (while there are cases of escape), prisons & jails usually are very secure (especially high-security prisons) & runaways aren't extremely common.
2) Victims are allowed to see justice: For victims, justice is extremely important as the perpretrator generally gets what "he (or she) deserves".
3) Safety of Victim: If the perpretrator is safely taken cared of and locked away, it would make the Victim feel much more safer, and can lead a more normal life.
