King uses three rhetorical techniques:
- Voice Merging: Combines excerpts from previous scriptures from preachers with the speaker's own words.
- Prophetic Voice: Similar to the style of Old Testament prophets, which gives a sense or urgency pleading for this issue to be assessed as soon as possible.
- Dynamic Spectacle: The speech was delivered in the right place, at the right time. In this case, during the Civil Rights Movement march on Washington.
