Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech, where he called for civil and economic rights and pleaded for the end of racism, is considered one of the most influential speeches in the history if the United States.

King uses three rhetorical techniques:

  • Voice Merging: Combines excerpts from previous scriptures from preachers with the speaker's own words.
  • Prophetic Voice: Similar to the style of Old Testament prophets, which gives a sense or urgency pleading for this issue to be assessed as soon as possible.
  • Dynamic Spectacle: The speech was delivered in the right place, at the right time. In this case, during the Civil Rights Movement march on Washington.
