13x - 2(8+5x)=12 - 11x do the distributive property first

13x - 16 -10x = 12 - 11x combine like terms

3x-16=12-11x get all x's on one side and regular nubers on the other so add 11x and 16 to both sides.

14x=28 divide both sides by 14

x=2
