The colonists did not have trained men to fight with the British, so they had a tough time pulling that untrained unit together to form a militia, and act against the British colonies. Fighting against the British was a huge act for them,,with those pack of untrained men. The colonists asked the men to join them against the British, leaving their occupations and fields. It was a dangerous thing to do. and also very risky,. Hence, revolting against the British wasn't a piece of cake for them. It required a lot of convincing and grit, to put everything at stake and revolt against a paramount force, who were far more skilled and militarily equipped than them.
