The Answer is: The Belief that a compromise could be reached on slavery
Before the star of the Civil War is was thought that states from the south could reach a compromise in keeping slavery, however after Abraham Lincoln was elected, the South was very displeased and sought to take matters into its own hands which resulted in the formation of The Confederate States of America.
There were many factors that were involved in the creation of this new rogue state but the belief of a compromise was only one minor factor that led to the creation of this unison of states and the subsequent Civil War.
Of the list, the least influential factor would be the belief that a compromise could be reached about slavery (last option). All the other factors were more influential specially the belief that states were entitled to self-government, followed by the fear that southernerners would lose their influence in national politics and finally The fear that northerners would try to end slavery.
