The Great Awakening was an Evangelical Revival in the 1730s in Great Britain and the Thirteen Colonies in America. This new movement “encouraged individuals to take control of their own beliefs. Great Awakening preachers believed in introspection and personal guilt and how commitment to new standards of morality would turn out in salvation by Christ.  


Women as well as minority groups such as African Americans were not excluded from this movement and there wasn’t an increased connection with the Church of England.


Great Awakening movement had a great impact on the American Revolution as it created a sense freedom of religion.
