Islam spread to India almost from its beginnings through Arab merchants that traded with the Indian subcontinent. This peaceful introduction of Islam lasted centuries, with Islam being well-received among the Indian population, mosques being built and Indian and Muslim people intermarrying.

Although Islam was already well-established in several areas in the tenth century, the invasion of Mahmud of Ghazni established it even further. He was the most prominent ruler of the Ghaznavi empire, a Persianate Muslim dynasty  of Turkic Mamluk origin.

Studies has shown that after the capture of Lahore and the end of the Ghaznavids, the Ghurid Empire, a foundation was laid of Muslim rule in India.

In 1206, Bakhtiyar Khalji led the Muslim conquest of Bengal, that resulted in the expansion of Islam at the time.

The Mughal (or Mogul) Empire ruled most of India and Pakistan in the 16th and 17th centuries. It strengthen Islam in South Asia, and spread Muslim arts and culture as well as the faith.

Conclusively, the spread of Islam to India.was as a result of the impact of the Arab merchants and conquerors and then with the Maluks.
