In my opinion, Melissa doesn't look like a typical woman. Because typical woman do give birth to babies and live a life like any other typical woman. But in this scenario, Melissa seems to be a career oriented woman, who has chosen to flourish her career instead of staying at home and do the child raising. Now if she encounters the abortion process, i don't think she would be affected by this as much as a typical woman could be. And aborting their child is her and her husband's mutual decision. So she won't be much affected by it.
