up mass balances for the Washing Unit for TiO2, salt, water, and total mass, using the General Balance
Equation. Setting up mass balances requires four things (as shown in class examples): 1. A title
explaining the balance; 2. A line giving the General Balance Equation (Acc = In – Out + Gen – Con) and
demonstrating which terms will be zero; 3. A line where all relevant terms from the General Balance
Equation are substituted for variables from Figure 1; and 4. A line where all possible variables are
substituted for values from Figure 1. You only have to set up these balances. You do not have to solve
any of them. Given/Find/Assumptions/Analysis/Conclusion sections are not required for Question 1.
