When stating the theme of a piece of literature, ideas are written in a complete sentence, not just a single word.

For example, one concept in the play is colonization and can be expressed in the following sentence for the theme: In The Tempest, Shakespeare portrays the problematic relationship between colonists and natives of a land in the relationship of Prospero and Caliban and the later interaction between Caliban and Trinculo.
