Marc Singh has been considering whether or not he should take on his new business venture an Electrical Contractor. Marc has recently moved to Abbotsford BC after finishing his college diploma in his home town of Merrit BC. During high school Mark took part in the BC Youth Apprenticeship program, working and gaining college credits with a local electrical contractor for 2 years, and in college Marc had to take on a 6-month internship in order to gain is required certification. After working a late shift at a local electronic and appliance retailer as a salesperson, Marc found himself helping the store owner fixing some electrical issues in the store. The sore owner told him how hard it was to get contractors in as they were all very busy. This made Marc think there might be an opportunity to jump into the market. After some research Marc found some information (below). Marc contacted several friends from back home and ask how often households and businesses called for services. They communicated that 50% of households call for one electrical job a year, and businesses are at a rate or 75%. Additionally, Marc found that there were 3,553 businesses in the area. From his experience he found that most jobs were priced at roughly $200 a call. ● Population of Abbotsford: 141,500 Individuals homes in Abbotsford: 43,220 ● New home constructions per year: 250 • Stats Canada: Profit Margins for electricians: 22% Number of electrical contractors in area: 35 ● ENG IN
