1) Origami paper is always in the shape of a square. If you take the top corner of either side of an 8.5 x 11-inch piece of paper and fold it to the lower opposite side and trim off the excess paper, this creates the square
that we need. Then fold the top corner to the opposite corner to create a diagonal, which is a typical first step to most origami designs.

What are the dimensions of your paper square? What is the length of the diagonal? Write your answer in exact form (with a radical) and decimal form.
Hint: Use the "Insert Math Equation" tool in the toolbar to insert your answer as a radical.

2) The coach of Esther's soccer team always gives the team a few options for the warm-up before practice. The option for today is to run from opposite corners of the soccer field (diagonally) 6 times or from end to end of the soccer field length-wise 7 times.

Note: The standard size of a soccer field is 125m x 85m.
The first option is to run 6 diagonal runs. The second option is to run 7 field runs. Which option will give Esther the greatest distance?

Your dad says you can have a new puppy if you build the dog house. Before building, you need to determine the dimensions. The width of the base of the dog house is 4 ft, the height of the wall is 3 ft, and the length
of the base is 5 ft. With the dimensions for the base and walls, you need to decide on the height of the roof (represented by the dotted line in the image below). The triangle portion of the dog house formed by the
roof has two sides that are the same length.

After choosing the height for the roof, find the slant height of the roof using the dimensions provided. What is the slant height of the roof?
You are hoping to put shingles on the roof and need to know what the square footage of the roof will be. Use the dimensions to calculate the area of the roof.
Hint: Remember to find the area of the entire roof.
